Szabadkőműves volt-e Baden-Powell?

Egyesek véleménye szerint Baden-Powell, a cserkészmozgalom megalapítója is szabadkőműves volt, bár ezt Magyarországon szeretik agyonhallgatni.
Azt hiszem, hogy pont fordítva van.
Szerintem úgy lenne helyes, hogy:
Tudott, hogy Baden-Powell, a cserkészmozgalom megalapítója nem volt szabadkőműves, bár Magyarországon sok helyütt azt terjesztik, hogy szabadkőműves volt.
Először a mondat végéről:

A félreértést az okozhatja, hogy a cserkészet szellemiségében és szervezeti felépítésében található hasonlóság a szabadkőművességgel. Másrészt mintegy féltucat szabadkőműves páholy viselte-viseli Baden-Powell nevét - viszont ez azzal magyarázható, hogy szabadkőműves cserkészek voltak a névadóik.

Dear Sir,
I refer to your enquiry regarding Lord Baden-Powell. There have been two complete searches of the Grand Lodge Registers for the name of Lord Robert Baden Powell, but there has been no trace of him having been initiated in or having been a member of a lodge under the United Grand Lodge of England. Nor is there any record of him having been initiated in a Lodge under any other Grand Lodge.

However, the following information may be of use to you:

Robert Stephenson Smyth Powell, Baron of Gilwell, founder of the Boy Scout movement was born 22nd February 1857 and died on 8th January 1941. Despite the similarities in the philosophies of Freemasonry and the Scouting movement, we have been unable to trace any evidence that Lord Baden-Powell was a Freemason.
In this country we have a number of lodges, the membership of which is predominantly made up of brethren with connections in Scouting. They have an annual reunion in London every year at which one of the lodges holds a meeting in this building and invites the members of the other lodges to attend. On this particular occasion the brethren often wear their Scout uniforms as well as their regalia.
I regret not being able to help you further.

Azaz az UGLE, az Egyesült Angol Nagypáholy részéről kijelentik, hogy dokumentációjuk kétszeri átvizsgálásával sem találtak Baden-Powell szabadkőművességére vonatkozó adatot.

Mr. Potter writes: "I joined the Scout Movement in 1910 and I became a Freemason in 1916. I knew Baden-Powell, as well as his son Peter. A few amongst us, who were all together as Scouts and Masons, asked Baden-Powell to become a Freemason. He answered that he was unable to do so because he was the Chief Scout and that the movement included many Roman Catholic Scouts who might be offended learning that he belonged to the Freemasons.… His son Peter found it also inadvisable to ask to become a Mason because he was National Guildmaster of the Baden-Powell Scouts Guild and he kept up many contacts with Roman Catholic Scouts on the continent.… As to the current Lord baden-Powell (1966), grandson of the Founder of the Movement, we spoke a few months ago of the possibility, but he added that he did not wish to pursue it because it was preferable that no Baden-Powell be a Freemason."
Azaz egy szabadkőműves cserkész beszámol arról, hogy Baden-Powell azzal hárította el hívását a szabadkőművességbe való belépésre, ha mint főcserkész szabadkőműves lenne, ezzel szabadkőművesi fennhatóság látszatát keltené az erre nagyon érzékeny római katolikus cserkészek körében.
